Apprenticeships to improve? (posted 14 July '10)

Higher standards of apprenticeships are one aspiration of the new government.

John Hayes, Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, is considering introducing stricter standards for apprenticeships in order to improve skills quality. Mr Hayes told peoplemanagement.co.uk that the Government hopes to increase the number of apprenticeships taken at Level 3, which is equivalent to an A Level. He criticised the previous Government for reclassifying Level 2 training, which is equivalent to a GCSE, as an apprenticeship.
